New Orleans: 50 Photographs was published by the Gay Men's Press in London in 1985, with texts in English, French and German.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEdward Lucie-Smith's introduction asks the viewer to see Dureau's models, some of them disabled, as equals rather than objects of pity. The question of who is looking, and with what power, is as live in these pictures as in Mapplethorpe's, who is said to have been inspired by them.
