Hosoe's study of men and women together, photographed so close and so strongly lit that bodies turn into landscapes of skin, muscle and shadow, printed in deep gravure. It continues the exploration of the body he began with Man and Woman (1961) and pursued with Mishima in Barakei.

Mishima delivered his preface, ahead of schedule, shortly before his death in November 1970, and the book appeared the following year. Embrace was reissued in 1977, but this Shashin Hyōronsha edition of 1971 is the original.

Signed by Hosoe.
