In 2006 the Treatment Action Campaign of South Africa and HIV i-Base in London brought treatment activists from around the world to Cape Town to compare how they taught people about HIV medicine. This book came out of that meeting, with text by Bob Huff and photographs by Wolfgang Tillmans: testimonies from activists, the case that treatment literacy was a condition of the global promise of universal access to HIV treatment by 2010, and a primer on the drugs then in use.

Tillmans, whose partner, the painter Jochen Klein, died of an AIDS-related illness in 1997, has long been engaged with HIV activism. Here his photographs serve a public-health argument rather than an art book. i-Base sold the limited edition to fund treatment literacy projects and published the text online.

Signed by Tillmans.
